Watch: Korean horror The Piper looks terrifying.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin was one of those very unsettling stories we were told as children for no understandable reason. The real message seems to be aimed at grown-ups about paying their debts. Yet it was always the children who suffered.

The upcoming Korean horror The Piper takes the classic story, which is just begging for the horror treatment, and moves the action to post-war Korea. A piper and his son arrive in an isolated village, where his magical pipe is soon used to rid the town of rats, but of course the village refuse to pay and thus begins a tale of revenge.

Starring Ryoo Seung Ryong as the titular piper and Lee Sung Min as the town elder, this is the debut feature from Kim Gwang Tae as director. The visuals look fantastic, with a great splattering of genuine horror and bizarre fantasy.
