Anyone of my age will be familiar with the Goosebumps novels by horror genius R.L. Stine. That’s if they’re worth knowing at all. I still regularly dip into his tomes of frightening chills and terrifying scares, so I can say with confidence that perhaps the books aren’t as scary as once believed, and they also run along a very similar path to one another. Therefore it makes sense that this latest iteration is a Jumanji mix-up of comedy and action in which Stine’s creations are released into our world.
Jack Black takes on the role of Stine in this CG-heavy adventure that looks like a lot of unexpected fun. Many fans really hoped for a more straightforward anthology approach with adaptations of some of the best books, but this looks set to bring attention to Stine’s work from a whole new generation.
Goosebumps is released in the US on 16th October and in the UK on 5th February. It stars Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, and Odeya Rush.
