It’s been the subject of fevered speculation, but now the man himself has confirmed the news – actor Cameron Monaghan is to pile on the make-up as the future Dark Knight’s prospective nemesis in Gotham.
Monaghan – facing the unenviable task of playing the part alongside Jared Leto‘s take in upcoming Suicide Squad – took the twenty-first century route to the reveal, posting the following image on Instagram:

His character Jerome, described as a “proto-Joker” by showrunner Bruno Heller, is going to play a major role in the second season.
Further news is expected on Saturday night, when the creators attend Comic-Con, just kicking off in San Diego. It appears the prequel will be cutting to the chase pretty quick, and Bat-fans won’t have long to wait before Bruce Wayne and his laughter-prone mortal enemy come face to face.
