Donnie Yen Star Wars Episode VIII rumour: Reports are circulating online that eastern action movie star Donnie Yen will play a Jedi in the next Star Wars movie.
We’ve been reading a few reports this morning that IP Man star Donnie Yen has signed on the dotted line to play a Jedi in Rian Johnson‘s Star Wars Episode VIII. The reports seem to original from a Chinese language website called Apple Daily (via Martial Arts Action Cinema), and they add that Yen will star opposite Harrison Ford as Han Solo in the film.
There’s not a lot else in the news report, other than that Yen is set to fly to London to start shooting next month, which seems a little early for any Episode VIII activity. Gareth Edwards‘ Star Wars Rogue One is shooting at Pinewood from next month, so could Yen have somthing to do with that movie?
I’d take this Donnie Yen Star Wars Episode VIII rumour with a pinch of salt as it all seems a bit disjointed in terms of schedules/ information, and as far as we know, Johnson is still in the writing stage. If there were any truth in the rumours then Yen’s casting could be interesting, but it is possibly a little early for anything ‘Episode VIII.’
We’d expect more news for Rogue One, especially as we’ve heard that the second unit is already shooting down at Pinewood, and it’s release is a year closer than Episode VIII, but we could be completey wrong.
Rian Johnson will write and direct Star Wars Episode VIII for Lucasfilm for a December 2018 release. The first film in the new Star Wars saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, hits cinemas this coming December, with Star Wars Rogue One set for December 2017.
