Star Wars Rogue One filming: Principal photography has commenced on Star Wars: Rogue One, the first stand-alone movie in the anthology.
We have news on Star Wars Rogue One filming: It has started! Yes, the Gareth Edwards-led movie, which will be the first Star Wars stand-alone movie, has kicked off shooting at Pinewood Studios, just outside of London. There are various reports suggesting that it just the second unit that have begun putting stuff before the camera, but there are others that Felicity Jones has also shot her first scene.
Making Star Wars and Star Wars Aficionado say that ‘loads of trees are being brought into the studio’ to shoot a ‘jungle landing’ scene, and some of the Star Destroyer sets and models have been brought over from The Force Awakens to be re-used on Rogue One. Blimey, this excites me.
“A band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans in Star Wars anthology film Rogue One.”
That’s the official synopsis from Disney/ Lucasfilm, and there’s even more rumours on the two aforementioned websites to suggest that old The Force Awakens sets are also being used to film some new Death Star sequences.
Star Wars Aficionado had even more info:
“Pinewood Studios legendary water tank facility looks set to be used, too, but not necessarily in the way you think. Beyond the UK, prior location scouting in America (Florida) and Venezuela for specific types of land mass and plantations has also been indicated.”
Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler), Diego Luna (Elysium), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises) and Forest Whitaker (Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai) will star in Star Wars Rogue One, which will release in cinemas on 16th December, 2016. That’s under 18 months away folks…
The new generation of Star Wars movies begins with Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December.
