The Independence Day 2 official title has been revealed as Independence Day Resurgence at a special Q+A in New Mexico late yesterday.
Update: You can now watch highlights from the announcement panel in New Mexico below.
Roland Emmerich has revealed the official title for the sequel to his 1996 blockbuster Independence Day. The film, which will be released next summer, will be titled Independence Day Resurgence. The official title was revealed at a press conference in New Mexico earlier yesterday.
We have some official set images from the production, as well as a new synopsis:
We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward will star in the movie for 20th Century Fox. Emmerich directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Dean Devlin.
We also have a very short video revealing that exciting new title.
