Star Wars Rogue One: Legendary actor Forest Whitaker has joined the cast of the first Star Wars spin-off movie from director Gareth Edwards.
Award-winning actor Forest Whitaker has joined the cast of Lucasfilm’s planned Star Wars Rogue One movie, the first spin-off film in the Star Wars Anthology movie series. Whitaker will join the already cast Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn in the Gareth Edwards directed film, which will be due in cinemas in 2017.
Variety scored the news of Whitaker’s involvement, but didn’t shed any further light on the character which he will be playing.
Star Wars Rogue One revolves around the heist of the Death Star plans by a group of rebel fighters.
What we do know: Felicity Jones will be playing one of those Rebel fighters. The story takes place between Star Wars episodes III and IV (‘Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘A New Hope’). There will be no Jedis anywhere near it. In fact, Edwards was quoted in saying the following:
“The absence of the Jedi hangs over the movie.”
Whitaker is set to star in the remake of The Crow sometime in the future, and will also appear in director Denis Villeneuve‘s The Story Of Your Life. He will next be seen on cinemas screens in the Antoine Fuqua directed boxing drama Southpaw, which will be released later this month.
Star Wars Rogue One will open on December 16, 2016.
