While the debate rages over whether Paul Feig is going to boost or blast the franchise with his upcoming female-led instalment, male moviegoers could be pleased with the news that Chris Hemsworth is joining the cast… as the team’s receptionist!
Originally played by Annie Potts, the Ghostbusters administrative kook was a firm favourite in Ivan Reitman‘s movies, though it seems a very different tack is being adopted here.
Hemsworth agreed to take the role after an initial rejection. Reportedly the character has been expanded by Feig and co-scribe Kate Dippold. The Thor star will now take pride of place alongside the announced team of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
The radical rebooting is set to shoot imminently, for release in July next year by Columbia Pictures. It’ll be followed by a man-sized chapter courtesy of Ghostcorp and Joe and Anthony Russo. Channing Tatum is rumoured to head that branch of the spook-lassooing operation. Reitman is producing both versions.
Steve is a journalist and comedian who enjoys American movies of the 70s, Amicus horror compendiums, Doctor Who, Twin Peaks, Naomi Watts and sitting down. His short fiction has been published as part of the Iris Wildthyme range from Obverse Books.
