You can’t help but feel sorry for George Lazenby. Not only is his solitary Bond outing On Her Majesty’s Secret Service almost universally under-rated, he’s also the only lead unable to see himself on the big screen in glorious digitally remastered Sony 4K format.

In a move that will make all Bond fans rejoice, Vue Cinemas have decided to host a special ‘Best Of Bond’ season over the course of June and July, with double bills showcasing some of 007’s most iconic films (and The World Is Not Enough) – in the Sony 4K format.

Launching on Sunday 14th June, each double bill will focus firmly on one leading man, beginning with original star Sean Connery’s portrayal of the secret agent in classics Dr. No and Goldfinger.

The character’s silver screen debut, Dr. No sees James Bond travel to Jamaica following the disappearance of another British agent. After encountering the dastardly Dr No who plans to disrupt NASA’s rocket launches, Bond must team up with shell diver Honey Rider and CIA agent Felix Leiter to prevent disaster.

Elsewhere, Goldfinger follows 007 battle with Auric Goldfinger, a gold-obsessed tycoon planning on irradiating the world’s gold supply to increase his own wealth. With some of the best scenes, most quoted lines (“Do you expect me to talk?”, “No Mr Bond, I expect you to die!”) and one of the most recognisable henchmen in the series, Goldfinger is debatably the quintessential Bond film.

Over the next 5 weeks, fans will also get the opportunity to watch Messrs Moore, Dalton, Brosnan and Craig in some of the series highlights, with the schedule as follows:

  • Sunday 14th June – Sean ConneryDr. No & Goldfinger
  • Sunday 21st June – Roger MooreLive and Let Die & The Spy Who Loved Me
  • Sunday 28th June – Timothy DaltonThe Living Daylights & License to Kill
  • Sunday 5th July – Pierce BrosnanGoldeneye & The World is Not Enough
  • Sunday 12th July – Daniel CraigCasino Royale & Skyfall

Despite the ‘Best Of Bond’ season not being widely advertised, it will surely be well received by fans, especially considering the huge popularity of the 007 franchise and anticipation for Bond’s next outing SPECTRE later this year. Unfortunately some cinemas won’t be taking part (likely due to the 4K format) so be sure to check out the Vue website before donning your tux and heading over.

‘Best Of Bond’ season begins Sunday 14th June 2015, with SPECTRE due for release on 23rd October 2015. Check out all the latest on that film by clicking here.
