Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil has been a butt-whupping success, and producers aren’t slowing the momentum for the upcoming second season.
Major character The Punisher/Frank Castle is to join the urban mayhem, with Jon Bernthal just announced as the DIY death machine. Bernthal became familiar to small screen audiences via his roles in The Walking Dead and Mob City.
Bringing vigilante Castle to life has been a slow process to date, with a handful of feature films to his name starring the likes of Dolph Lundgren and Thomas Jane. Showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are hoping a team up/face off with Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock will rock fans’ boats, leading presumably to a Punisher series somewhere down the line.
In the meantime the comic book streaming empire has its hands full putting together the Defenders superteam of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
“The Man Without Fear” returns to Netflix next year, though he might be feeling nervous with Castle around!
Steve is a journalist and comedian who enjoys American movies of the 70s, Amicus horror compendiums, Doctor Who, Twin Peaks, Naomi Watts and sitting down. His short fiction has been published as part of the Iris Wildthyme range from Obverse Books.
