The Martian trailer: Matt Damon is stranded on Mars

The very first trailer for Ridley Scott‘s upcoming sci-fi drama The Martian has just landed. The Martian trailer shows us the scale of Scott’s adaptation of the Andy Weir novel that was released in book stores last year.

The Martian is a book I’ve been looking to get around to reading for absolutely ages now, but I’m still to do so. The Martian trailer is very Gravity-esque, but full of your customary Scott visuals and epic scope.

It’s great to see Ridley back in space after his rather disappointing Exodus: Gods and Kings which was released at the tail end of last year.

Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Sebastian Stan, and Aksel Hennie star in the film, alongside Sean Bean, Mackenzie Davis, Donald Glover, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Jeff Daniels.

We have a detailed synopsis which you can read at the bottom of the post, but first here’s that epic first trailer..

[quote_box_center]During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, THE MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.[/quote_box_center]

The Martian is released through 20th Century Fox from 27th November, 2015.

So incredibly excited for this film. Ridley Scott is a master of directing movies that take place in space / on other planets, and with Drew Goddard writing the script I think it will be a lot better than Prometheus. Also, the book is wonderful.
