The hit 90s comedy Sister Act is up for the remake treatment as Disney, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The original 1992 movie revolves around Whoopi Goldberg‘s character Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge bar singer who witnesses a mob crime and is placed in protective custody in a San Francisco convent.
The movie was entertaining enough, and featured some strong support from the likes of Harvey Keitel, Dame Maggie Smith and Kathy Najimy. It was a huge success for Touchstone, who were owned by the Mouse House, and the film bagged an impress $231 million around the world. It also spawned a slighty mediocre sequel, and a musical that hit both Broadway and London’s West End.
The remake has fallen to Legally Blonde writers Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah, (who also wrote 10 Things I Hate About You and She’s the Man). No news as to whether Goldberg or any of the original cast will return, but in my eyes this has Rebel Wilson written all over it. She can sing…
