The first Marvel movie of 2016 will be the in-production Captain America: Civil War, which features a lot of the characters from the extensive Marvel Cinematic Universe. A name amongst the massive cast is Britain’s own Martin Freeman (The Hobbit), whose role has, perhaps up until now, been completed unknown.
The folks over at US website Latino Review have potentially unearthed who Freeman might be playing in the third CA movie, and it may just link Civil War and the last big Marvel release Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Potential spoilers ahead.
[quote_center]The hot rumor that we’ve been hearing (this is unconfirmed because NO ONE wants to confirm this at the moment) is that Martin Freeman is playing a character named Edward Chase, the Prime Minister of England in the MCU. Whatever mission goes south for Captain America’s Avengers at the beginning of the movie will involve a number of British soldiers, so Chase (Freeman) will be responsible for upping the pressure on the government side, even though it is an international government body. Chase will be arguing for a better world-wide plan to keep The Avengers in check.[/quote_center]
So where’s the ‘Ultron’ connect then?
Well, the site continues and focusses in on Andy Serkis‘ scene in the film where his character, Klaw, potentially named-dropped the Freeman character.
Right before Ultron interrupts Klaw (Andy Serkis), Klaw threatens to send some missiles up someones ass, then says:
“Now, Minister, where were we?”
They are saying that Freeman’s character of Chase could have been that Minister on the line. Now that’s cool. If true.
Captain America: Civil War will set up the next [two] Avengers movies, and potentially the planned Black Panther movie (where Freeman and Serkis could also appear), and will be released on 6th May, 2016.
