Nikolaj Arcel to direct Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’

Nikolaj ArcelThe long, bumpy road to the movie adaptation continues, but the Stephen King’s The Dark Tower now (hopefully) has its director.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo co-writer, Nikolaj Arcel is in talks to direct the Maine horror maestro’s horror/fantasy series. The project is now with Sony, after stints at Universal, and then Warner Bros.

Of course, this is hugely exciting news. King aficionados have always had a special place for the lone gunslinger series and its complex mythology. And it looks like the live version will be similarly ambitious, with an interconnected TV series.

But what kind of King movie will it be? There’s no doubt that early King novels are the pinnacle of terror (while the later ones could do with a good edit), but his film adaptations can be a bit ropey. Whether The Dark Tower will have more in common with Misery or Sleepwalkers remains to be seen.

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
