Schwarzenegger to channel Clint Eastwood for ‘Legend Of Conan’

2012-10-25-conanthebarbarian1It appears Sylvester Stallone‘s success in reviving some long-thought-dormant screen characters has rubbed off on his friends. Arnold Schwarzenegger is about to return to cinemas as an ageing cyborg in Terminator: Genisys, and now he’s attempting the same trick for the forthcoming Legend Of Conan.

Billed as a sequel to 1982’s Conan The Barbarian, it’s been revealed by writer/producer Chris Morgan that the fabled Austrian Oak will be very much front and centre for the new instalment… and what’s more, there’s an unlikely movie inspiration in mind! Morgan elaborates:

[quote_box_center]Our tone is a logical extension of the character established in the ’82 film…but 30 years later… Think ‘Unforgiven’…with a sword-wielding barbarian.[/quote_box_center]

So, Arnie’s getting all grizzled and introspective for the franchise. Sounds like an odd fit, but with the star’s increasing age perhaps this is the only way they can do it. And it’s not like he’s going to get a hernia waving a blade around anytime soon!

Morgan went on to tease that other actors from the first film are due to come back for another slice of sword and sorcery.

Derived from Robert E. Howard‘s pulp creation, it’s unclear whether the new film will ignore ’84’s Conan The Destroyer, which featured Grace Jones and was criticized as a watered-down follow-up to John Milius‘s bloody original. One movie it’ll certainly be bypassing is the 2011 remake, that distinctly failed to pass into legend.
