TV Trailer: The New Muppets TV Show Might Just Be Brilliant

muppets-2

Following two very successful movies that have been released over the past couple of years, The Muppets are returning to television later this year for a brand new series.  Those expecting similar hi-jinks to said movies or indeed the TV show that aired a couple of decades ago may be in for a surprise, as ABC have delivered us something very, very, different.

The first trailer for the new Muppets TV show clearly shows off a different approach to the show, and indeed more adult, as it is filmed in a documentary style; a bit like The Office or Extras. In fact, this has a distinctive Ricky Gervais feel to it… and it might just work.

“The original Muppets was making fun of all the variety shows that were going on at the time and thought ‘Why don’t we go out and make fun of all the mockumentaries?’” ABC president Paul Lee explained.

“The Muppets isn’t going to look like The Muppets looked the last time [it was] on TV.”

Clearly not judging by the trailer.

Here’s the official synopsis.

For the first time ever, a series will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, breakups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires. This is a more adult Muppet show, for “kids” of all ages.[/quote_box_center]

The show is written and executive produced by Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory) and Bob Kushell. The new look Muppets show will air later this autumn.
