Hugh Jackman confirmed the worst fears of every X-Men fan around the world today when he officially announced that the third Wolverine solo outing will indeed be his last time strapping on the adamantium claws.
‘This will be my last one’ Jackman Explained on the Dr. Oz show, ‘It just felt like it was the right time to do it.’
Reflecting on his time in the role, he continued ‘And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out.’
This is, of course, contrary to comments made earlier this year when speaking with Cigar Eficionado: ‘I’ve got to find a way to keep playing him until I die’.
As fan boys around the world weep into their Logan wigs and home made Wolverine claws, speculation is now beginning to circulate around whether the immortal mutant will appear alongside his fellow X-Men in next years X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Thus far, he has yet to be spotted on set, however we’ll be sure to keep our eyes open for any trace of Weapon X on the Vancouver set in the coming months.
The as yet untitled third Wolverine outing isonce again set to be helmed by James Mangold, and is scheduled for a tentative summer 2017 release.
