The planned second movie in the STAR WARS stand-alone ‘anthology’ series will reportedly focus on a back story to one of the saga’s most famous characters, the bounty hunter Boba Fett.
The character, who first appeared in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, RETURN OF THE JEDI, and then in the prequels that followed, is widely loved amongst the STAR WARS fan base, and if The Wrap is to be believed, the anthology film, to be released in 2018, will be based around him and a group of bounty hunters.
Lucasfilm are currently looking for a director for the project after CHRONICLE and FANTASTIC FOUR helmer Josh Trank jumped ship due to ‘personal reasons’ late last week.
He had this to say on his departure:
[quote_center]“After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities.”[/quote_center]
Word spread afterwards that the talented young director allegedly displayed “erratic behavior” on FANTASTIC FOUR; a project that STAR WARS collaborator Simon Kinberg is also involved in as producer over at Fox.
The hunt continues for a replacement.
The first anthology movie, STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE, directed by GODZILLA helmer Gareth Edwards, will be released in December of 2016. Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn and Riz Ahmed will star.
