He’s about to relaunch a major fantasy franchise featuring a range of beloved characters with THE FANTASTIC FOUR. But there’s one series director Josh Trank won’t be contributing to, as he’s announced he’ll be leaving the second STAR WARS standalone movie.
Described by Trank as “a personal decision”, it comes after reports of his conduct during the filming of the Marvel reboot. A portrait has been painted of a young helmer inexperienced in navigating the big leagues, not always a bad thing. However this is clearly a major concern for Lucasfilm, a company whose slow and steady approach doesn’t allow for the unorthodox, especially when an interplanetary licence to print money is involved.
Offshoot number two is to follow Gareth Edwards’ ROGUE ONE, an action-packed chapter about a plot to steal the plans to the Death Star. Trank’s loss is a blow, but a minor blip in the grand scheme of things. The question on fans’ lips now is who will join J.J. Abrams, Rian Johnson and Edwards in bringing George Lucas’s venerated brand back to the big screen?
