Cowa-whaaa-nga? ‘TMNT 2’ Shells Out For Laura Linney

TurtlesThough producer Michael Bay isn’t renowned for a sense of intellectual rigour when it comes to his movies, he does take the precaution of casting respected actors in order to lend increased credibility to his explosion-heavy output.

John Turturro provided the dramatic backbone of the TRANSFORMERS franchise, and while it was strange to see him involved Bay’s next choice is about as out of left field as you can get – he wants Laura Linney to be in TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2.

Audiences are more used to seeing Linney portray fine character roles in films such as THE SAVAGES alongside the late Philip Seymour Hoffman and HYDE PARK ON HUDSON with Bill Murray. She’s arguably best-remembered as Jim Carrey’s horror show of a fake nurse wife in THE TRUMAN SHOW.

Bay’s mighty Platinum Dunes chequebook hasn’t had much difficulty convincing the actress to brave the sewers and jump aboard, with Linney currently in talks for an as-yet-unspecified part. The only guarantee is she’ll bring some unexpected quality to a movie it’s safe to say people aren’t anticipating much from, outside the green stuff (and I’m not talking mutant ooze).

Starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Stephen Amell, Tyler Perry and Brian Tee, TMNT 2 is produced by Bay with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. It’s written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec and directed by Dave Green (an appropriate name if ever there was one). The sequel commences production next month.
