He may have just started shooting X-MEN: APOCALYPSE this week, but Michael Fassbender has a series of movies lined up in the coming months. He will assume the role of Steve Jobs in Danny Boyle’s biopic of the Apple pioneer, and also in a reimagining of the classic story of Macbeth, albeit with a different twist.
Fassbender stars as the title character with Marion Cotillard appearing as Lady Macbeth in the production from director Justin Kurzel (SNOWTOWN). The new film is described as “a reimagining of what wartime must have been like for one of Shakespeare’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition set in war-torn medieval Scotland.”
Kurzel comments on the new slant.
“It reminded me a lot of a Western, and of a landscape and atmosphere that felt much more dangerous than I’d ever seen before from adaptations of Macbeth.”
Empire have debuted three new images from the film (one above and two below), which should enter cinemas later this year (October), following a debut at next month’s Cannes Film Festival.
