DC’s first female-centric movie has taken a hit with the news Michelle MacLaren is departing WONDER WOMAN.
A TV director set on making the project her first feature, MacLaren’s name is familiar to viewers of Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and most recently Better Call Saul. It’s not clear what led to her exit, though the typical reason of “creative differences” has been given by Warner Bros in a prompt statement.
Though some strong women exist in the collective comic book universes, more often than not these are overseen by men, so this fundamental difference of opinion could indicate the wariness a twenty-first century industry still has toward giving complete control to the fairer sex.
No matter what the circumstances, the Gal Gadot-starring show goes on, and there’ll be no shortage of candidates to take over. The question is, will it be a woman putting the wonder into the production…?
