Kevin Feige Confirms & Talks High-School ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot Story

It’s been rumoured for a while now, since Marvel got their Spider-Man back from Sony, but now Marvel Studios President, Mr Kevin Feige, has confirmed to Collider that they’re definitely heading back into Spidey’s teenage years and they’ll still there for a while, after he makes his debut in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR in May 2016.

It’s a pity that this third reboot comes after Andrew Garfield’s hugely likable Spider-Man but it seems THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN wasn’t everything they wanted him to be. But, saying this, a tip of the hat has to go to Feige who’s been working hard for a long time to get Spidey back to his rightful home and although he’s still jointly owned, it’s a fan’s dream to see him where he should be, back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Firstly, on his age and the setting, Feige had this to say:

“In terms of the age of an actor we’ll eventually to cast, I don’t know. In terms of the age of what we believe Peter Parker is, I’d say 15-16 is right. We want to play with Spider-Man in the high school years because frankly there’ve been five Spider-Man films and the amazing thing about it is, even though there’ve been five Spider-Man films, there are so many things from the comics that haven’t been done yet. Not just characters or villains or supporting characters, but sides to his character. The most obvious being the ‘young, doesn’t quite fit in’ kid before his powers, and then the fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys and doesn’t shut up, which is something we want to play with and we’re excited about.”

He’s right, isn’t he?!

There’s more over on Collider,  please visit them for further thoughts from the Marvel Studios President but we did, and you might, find yourself agreeing with the whole plan. Brian Michael Bendis’ take was set in Peter’s teenage years, as did his original comic appearances of course, but there’s so much out there to tackle and – interestingly – he’ll be the new blood alongside those well-known heroes.

SPIDER-MAN / PETER PARKER gets his own film written and directed by Drew Goddard, who’s also got a lot to do recently with Netflix and Marvel’s excellent Daredevil small screen adaptation, and we’ll see our new high-school Parker in the summer of 2017. Expect casting to be announced soonish and then we’ll see him for the first time in CIVIL WAR in 2016.

So much good stuff to come!
