‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’ Netflix Series Confirmed For 2016 Premiere

Mike Colter Luke Cage

With the highly anticipated Daredevil only days away, Netflix and Marvel Television have once again excited fans with news of another of their collaborations, this time confirming the 2016 launch for Marvel’s Luke Cage, featuring Mike Colter in the lead role.

Considering that the second of Netflix/Marvel’s four confirmed series – A.K.A Jessica Jones is slated for release later this year and that it sees Colter’s Cage making an appearance alongside star Krysten Ritter, it comes as no real surprise that Luke Cage’s solo outing won’t be making it to our screens during 2015.

Nonetheless, confirmation of a 2016 release for Luke Cage will be reason for celebration by many, with the news reaffirming Netflix and Marvel’s commitment to delivering all of their planned comic-based shows in a reasonable timeframe; great news for those waiting patiently for Iron Fist or The Defenders mini-series.

The news comes as part of the announcement that Cheo Hodari Coker will be overseeing the project as showrunner and executive producer, whilst also writing the first two episodes of the series. With a background in journalism, Coker has established himself in a number of writer/producer roles on the likes of Ray Donovan, Southland and Almost Human and is seen as the ideal man to shape the apparently dark and gritty show with plenty of crime drama TV experience under his belt.

Whilst little is confirmed at present, Luke Cage will follow the exploits of the titular character as he uses his super strength and unbreakable skin to become a hero for hire in the mean streets of ‘Hell’s Kitchen’.

While we still have a while to wait for Marvel’s Luke Cage, the first of the Marvel/Netflix alliance, Daredevil, is due on screens on 10th April 2015.
