Whilst his impending return as the T-800 in TERMINATOR: GENISYS is taking most of the attention, the trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new zombie film MAGGIE has shuffled in without great fanfare. Despite the initial images the actor-genre pairing conjures up, this independent movie is not your typical Arnie affair.
A post-apocalyptic horror drama, MAGGIE focuses on the struggles of loving father Wade (Arnold Schwarzenegger) as he cares for his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) whilst coming to terms with the infection slowly taking hold of her.
Relatively small in scale but big on emotional impact, MAGGIE attempts to give a human face to the zombie apocalypse in a way not often seen on the silver screen.
Directed by Henry Hobson, MAGGIE looks gripping and shows Schwazenegger flexing his acting muscles in a way we’ve not seen before. It may be a big change of direction for the veteran star, but given his history of successfully reinventing himself, not to mention his performance here, this could be another watershed moment for him.
MAGGIE is set for release in US cinemas on 8th May 2015, but unfortunately doesn’t have a UK release yet. Let’s hope we see this in UK cinemas soon.
