A live performance by Mary J. Blige or DJ Z-Trip, a special Ballet performance, or a screening with live commentary – these are the hard choices one must face when deciding on which electrifying screening to attend in the Special program.
Taking place during the 14th edition of the Festival from April 15 to 26, this year’s Special Screenings have been programmed to provide exciting film experiences partnering both new and classic films with unique live performances.
Screening at the Beacon Theatre in New York City is the world premiere of MARY J. BLIGE – THE LONDON SESSIONS. The documentary, that accompanies Mary J. Blige as she writes, records, and curates one of her most experimental albums to date, will be followed by a live performance by the artist.
At the premiere screening of Nelson George’s A BALLERINA’S TALE, a documentary about notable and trailblazing ballet soloist Misty Copeland, a conversation with the artist and a performance by her protégées from Project Plie will follow the screening.
Another exciting experience that won’t want to be missed is the one-night only live performance of legendary DJ and producer DJ Z-Trip who has created a new score for the recently restored, 1928 Harold Lloyd silent slapstick comedy SPEEDY
Rounding out the Special (and Midnight) screenings program is RIFFTRAX LIVE: THE ROOM. Performing for the first time ever in New York City, the comedic Rifftrax gang will skewer Tommy Wiseau’s modern masterpiece THE ROOM with a live comedic commentary.
Ticket passes, packages and single ticket sales for the Festival can be viewed and purchased online, by telephone or at a number of select ticket outlets around Manhattan if you reside in the city.
Personally, I hope I have an opportunity to experience each and every one of these exceptional events during the Festival. Make sure to keep up with THN’s dedicated TFF 2015 blog to hear about the latest news and reviews from TFF 2015.
