She’s managed a raft of political hot potatoes and made her name on the small screen as Olivia Pope in ABC’s Scandal. Now Kerry Washington’s next big role sees her staying amongst America’s power elite and heading to HBO for true life TV film Confirmation.
The story chronicles the scandal surrounding Clarence Thomas’s nomination for Supreme Court Justice in 1991. Washington will play Anita Hill, the government employee whose accusations of sexual harrassment threatened to blow the prestigious appointment out of the sky. She ended up testifying before Congress and put her neck on the line beneath the American flag and the glare of the world’s media.
Susannah Grant adapts the saga for the network – she’s no stranger to such trials, having written ERIN BROCKOVICH for Julia Roberts. Grant will exec produce with Washington. Rick Famuyiwa is wanted as director and the movie comes courtesy of Groundswell Productions and ABC Signature Entertainment.
