A sequel to the brilliant, though ever so over-played FROZEN movie, was inevitable following the first movie’s critical and commercial success (it has brought in $1.2 billion in worldwide revenues since its released in 2013), and today Walt Disney Animation Studios have officially announced a sequel.

The big announcement was made at Disney’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders this morning by Bob Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company; John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios; and actor Josh Gad, who voices Olaf in the original

“We enjoyed making [spin-off short] Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters,” said John Lasseter. “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.

FROZEN 2 does not currently have a release date, but you’ll be able to catch the aforementioned short ‘Frozen Fever’ if you go and see Disney’s CINDERELLA in cinemas from the 27th March.
