Oliver Stone is currently hard at work on a biopic of American whistle blower Edward Snowden, entitled SNOWDEN, and today we can reveal a first look at actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt who stars in the title role. Snowden famously leaked classified information from the NSA (National Security Agency) in 2013, and is currently exiled in Russia. He was also the subject of last year’s Academy Award winning documentary CITIZENFOUR, which is an outstanding work.
The script is based on the books “The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man” by Luke Harding and “Time of the Octopus” by Anatoly Kucherena.
We’re expecting the film towards the end of the year (the US has a tentative Christmas Day release penciled in), just in time for awards season. Shailene Woodley, Tom Wilkinson, Nicolas Cage, Timothy Olyphant, Zachary Quinto, and Rhys Ifans also star. Shooting is underway over in Munich, Germany.
