Hot on the heels of Calista Flockhart’s casting, CBS have announced another powerful female presence for the line up of their Supergirl TV series. Helen Slater, star of the 1984 movie of the same name, is taking what’s described as a “top-secret” role.
Also signing up is former Lois & Clark star Dean Cain, who needs no introduction to fans of the Kryptonian franchise. He was of course Clark Kent with Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane. Slater and Cain guest-starred on previous small screen saga Smallville, so it’s looking like the new show will be tipping the wink to incarnations past.
The main cast is toplined by Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, with Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen and Flockhart as Cat Grant and sees the action revolve around a media empire, presumably along the lines of The Daily Planet in Superman.
British actor David Harewood recently joined the line up. No stranger to TV fantasy, he appeared on Doctor Who alongside David Tennant, who in turn has joined Netflix’s Marvel adaptation AKA Jessica Jones.
