Though a popular game franchise the TOMB RAIDER films never really caught the imagination of the cinema going public. There was no question that Angelina Jolie wasn’t the absolute best person to bring the iconic game explorer Lara Croft to life, however the films were overlong and overly complicated. Apparently though Warner Brothers and MGM think the world is ready for another outing as plans to reboot the series have been announced.
The task of scripting the film has been left to Evan Daugherty, a writer who has recently written TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURLES, G:I JOE 3 and SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, meaning we’re in for something truly memorable (though probably not for the right reasons). The concept for the film will follow that of the more recent games, focussing on a young Lara as she undertakes her first adventure.
No casting choices have been made yet but both Megan Fox and Skins actress Kaya Scodelario have been linked to the role in the past.
