‘Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday’ Plans Revealed By Netflix

Pee Weee Herman

The title of the long-gestating third Pee-Wee Herman film has been unveiled as PEE-WEE’s BIG HOLIDAY.

The new movie, to be streamed on Netflix, sees Pee-Wee become “inspired to take his first ever holiday after a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger”. Story-wise, the Judd Apatow production should feature manchild Herman’s brand of warped eccentricity, famous to fans of the character’s output. Tim Burton’s PEE-WEE’s BIG ADVENTURE (1985) saw a road trip including a deceased trucker named Large Marge, and the underrated BIG TOP PEE-WEE (1988) had a circus blow into the hero’s farm during a storm.

Created by controversial actor/comedian Paul Reubens some 35 years ago, Pee-Wee also ran kids TV show Pee-Wee’s Playhouse that had Laurence Fishburne among the cast. He was resurrected by Reubens (now in his sixties) in 2010, and after some time trying to get something cinematic off the ground the project got taken up by superfan Apatow.

Reubens and Arrested Development‘s Paul Rust have written the screenplay. Production begins next month.
