This time last month we gave you the news that Series 9 has begun filming and now we’re delighted to announce that the dubiously mad/brilliant Michelle Gomez will become ‘Missy’ once more in Doctor Who.
For those in the know, and if you’re not then why are you here spoiling things for yourself, Missy was indeed, in fact, absolutely the new incarnation of the Doctor’s greatest (ish) foe ‘The Master’. We all had a feeling Missy wasn’t your usual cameo character and although it wasn’t the biggest surprise, Gomez’s take was exceptional and a great blend of power hungry alongside the game player we all know so well.
Filming in Cardiff, Michelle Gomez had this to say:
“Things have been a little beige since I left Missy behind, so I’m delighted to be putting my Lippie back on. I’m positively dying to see the Doctor again!”
That’s a loaded quote isn’t it? The second two-part adventure to be filmed, ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’ and ‘The Witch’s Familiar’, is written by the show’s lead writer Steven Moffat, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Hettie Macdonald (Blink, the Hugo Award-winning Doctor Who episode).
Lead writer and Executive Producer, Mr Steven Moffat, added:
“Everybody hide – Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect.”
Doctor Who returns to BBC One this Autumn, head over to the official Who page for an exclusive Missy clip.
