Ben Stiller’s NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM franchise may have done a hat-trick of December box-office blockbuster business, with Christmas Day releases almost guaranteeing that rare occurrence of when takings go up in teh second week, but the sequel we’ve all been waiting for is ZOOLANDER 2. It’s gradually gained some momentum, with Justin Theroux, who played the evil DJ in the original, on board to direct taking over the role from Stiller himself. Penelope Cruz has also signed for a role, but now we can also confirm the return of Christine Taylor as Matilda Jeffries.
Speaking with EW, Taylor gave these exciting little tit-bits:
I can tell you that I’m involved, but that’s all I can say. I can tell you it’s happening, but I can’t tell you where Matilda’s at and where their relationship is at. It’s all top secret!
ZOOLANDER wasn’t the massive hit it should have been on release, taking in just $60 million. However, those DVD sales made it possible for the return of such a beloved character. There shouldn’t have been much doubt about Taylor’s return, given that she’s married to Stiller in the real world, but it’s nice to hear that the project is continuing forward. Now let’s cross fingers for the return of Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, and Billy Zane.
