Flight Of The Conchords star Rhys Darby is going way out for his next project. Way, way out, for the set up sees him stranded on an island after a plane crash with a mismatched group of survivors. Wrecked features Darby as Steve, who is described simply as a happy soul with a giant dog.
Written by Justin and Jordan Shipley, the cast also includes Zach Cregger, Ginger Gonzaga, Jessica Lowe, Asif Ali and others. The characters range from a high-minded feminist and an ex-Special Forces operative to a VP of Bing. All of them must learn to survive out in the wild without social media or MSG in what is billed as a comedic take on Lost coupled with a single camera sensibility.
It’s hopefully a solid proposition for talented New Zealander Darby, who was last seen on the big screen in WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS. Aside from mockumentary Short Poppies (directed by Conchords co-star Jemaine Clement) he’s guested in US sitcoms but deserves a high profile recurring role to push him firmly into the big leagues.
Wrecked is being produced by Jesse Hara for the TBS channel.
