Luke Evans Finally Stones ‘The Crow’

Crow

He’s been attached to the movie reboot for a while, but Luke Evans’ patience has clearly run out with news of his departure from THE CROW. Evans originally signed when F. Javier Gutierrez was in the director’s chair, but when he moved on the production got delayed. Corin Hardy has been brought in to line the lenses, but the meteoric rise of the film’s star has led Relativity to hunt for a new Eric Draven.

The franchise started in 1994 and instantly gained cult status via the on-set death of Brandon Lee (son of Bruce), who was killed by a malfunctioning firearm. Lee played Draven, a rock star who rises from the grave as a ghostly avenger after he and his fiancee are brutally murdered by a gang. Adapted from James O’Barr’s comic book, it spawned three sequels and a short-lived TV series.

Evans made no bones about his disappointment over the protracted nature of the project, remarking during publicity late last year for THE HOBBIT:

I’m sure it’s going to go ahead at some point, but I have other projects that are greenlit and ready to go and projects that I’m very interested in and you know, I can’t wait much longer!

So the Welsh actor’s army of loyal fans will be denied the opportunity to see him strut about in tight leather trousers. But who else has the qualities for a perfect Crow? My money’s on Matt Smith, who’d look great in KISS-style make-up. Feel free to leave your thoughts below!
