She’s best known for playing the headstrong Tara in True Blood, but for her next role Rutina Wesley encounters a human monster in the third season of Hannibal. Wesley plays Reba McClane, infamous to readers of the Thomas Harris source novels as the woman who got close to Francis Dolarhyde.
Unbeknownst to her, he is the Tooth Fairy, the serial killer at the heart of first Lecter bestseller Red Dragon – however her blindness makes her literally unseeing as to his true nature. Richard Armitage has been cast as Dolarhyde. The characters were portrayed by Emily Watson and Ralph Fiennes in the 2002 movie adaptation and by Joan Allen and Tom Noonan in Michael Mann’s 1986 version MANHUNTER.
Wesley and Armitage join new cast member Joe Anderson, who replaces Michael Pitt as Mason Verger. It looks like showrunner Bryan Fuller is really starting to blend the worlds of the series and the books, mashing the elements together into a sort of meaty paste. I’m sure the good Doctor would approve. The show airs in the Summer.
