It may have been the highest grossing film of last year but there is no love for Michael Bay’s TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION as it leads the Razzie nominations. The Razzies, or Golden Raspberry awards, is an awards ceremony with a difference; rather than applaud the best and brightest, rewards are given to those who have created the worst in cinema.
Bay has been campaigning for Oscar glory and may see today’s news as somewhat of a setback, but his bank account will have the last laugh given the incredible box office the film received. The fourth instalment in the franchise received seven nominations for Worst Picture, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Worst Rip-Off, Remake or Sequel, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay and Worst On-Screen Combo. Cameron Diaz also hasn’t faired so well with three of her films, THE OTHER WOMAN, ANNIE and SEX TAPE all picking up nominations.
Interestingly this year the ceremony will also have a brand new award, the ‘redeemer’ award. This prize will give recognition to a past winner who has gone onto to produce something that is actually rather good. We’re very happy to spy a certain Mr Reeves within that category.
