He’s known to Disney fans around the world as the voice of a loveable snowman in FROZEN. But Josh Gad could soon be in the frame for an altogether different type of role, if the producers of true life tale RUSS AND ROGER GO BEYOND have their way. Gad is seemingly the perfect fit for Roger Ebert, who as a young reviewer praised filmmaker Russ Meyer. Meyer was notorious for his octane-charged cocktails of barbarity and bosoms and subsequently hired Ebert to write warped spoof BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS in 1970. Who is signed up to play the Panavisioning pornographer? None other than Will Ferrell.
Meyer died in 2004 and Ebert in 2013, so while it’s tough to know what they would have made of the project, the prospect of a story involving a clash between studio bosses and sturdy bras is a good starting point for an attention-grabbing couple of hours. Saturday Night Live‘s Christopher Cluess has written the script and the producer is David Permut of Permut Presentations. Gad’s star is clearly on the rise, with an upcoming role in video game saga PIXELS opposite Adam Sandler.
