It’s been in development for as long as the rum its principal character drinks takes to age. But now all the talk of a new PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movie is finally coming to fruition as pictures emerge of an elaborate set being constructed in Queensland…
The location appears surprisingly rural until you discover it’s in the heart of the Gold Coast Hinterland, so not far from the golden sands and salty spray we associate with the PIRATES franchise. By the looks of it this cosy village-type environment could play a key role in the action, though in the “money to burn” world of producer Jerry Bruckheimer it may only provide the backdrop for one of Captain Jack Sparrow’s trademark quips.
You can plunder the rest of the snaps (courtesy of Andrew Thompson) here. Johnny Depp will return as Sparrow, alongside Geoffrey Rush and Javier Bardem as debut villain Captain Brand. Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner is reportedly coming back, though this currently has the credibility of a mermaid’s whisper in a gale force wind. Brenton Thwaites joins the cast as Henry, a British soldier, with Kaya Scodelario and Alexandra Dowling amongst others rumoured to be in the frame for the female lead.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES is directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg and splashes down in cinemas July 2017.
