One of the more obscure Hollywood releases of next year has gotten a little more obscure as Disney issue a still from TOMORROWLAND. Despite a cast featuring George Clooney and Hugh Laurie, with Brad THE INCREDIBLES Bird at the helm, the media have been confused over the relatively small details emerging about the project. It maybe doesn’t help that it shares its name with a Belgian electronica festival. An appearance by Laurie on The Graham Norton Show was notable by his bemused response to the host’s reading out of the story blurb:
Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank, jaded by disillusionment, and Casey, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world–and them–forever.
It sounds alright to me. Maybe there are too many commas for this fast-paced world. But whether you’re intrigued or turned-off, you’ll no doubt want to see the still itself, which I’ve prevaricated over long enough…
Depicted is Britt Robertson as Casey Newton. I can’t say the image fills me with excitement (you can see it in motion in the rather decent teaser trailer), but hopefully the trip will be worth the wait as sci-fi hungry audiences count down the days to another of the studio’s genre movies… a certain something called STAR WARS EPISODE VII: THE FORCE AWAKENS.
Starring Clooney as Frank Walker, with Laurie as David Nix (reportedly a villain), TOMORROWLAND is out May 22nd.
