From Vampire To Superhero? Is Claire Holt Supergirl?

Whilst Marvel might have the monopoly on the superhero movie, DC are well out in front when it comes to television series’. Both Flash and Arrow have produced great viewing figures for CW, and even Gotham, which is over at Fox, has had a more interesting first half-series than that of Agents of Shield.  Not wanting to miss out on the action CBS are hard at work on bringing the next DC character, Supergirl, to the small screen.

There was of course an ill-advised film of SUPERGIRL released in 1984 which saw Helen Slater don the tights and cape. The now departed Smallville also featured the character of Kara wherein the role was played by Laura Vandervoort. But who will play the flying female this time around? The new production is currently in its test-shoot phase with one actress in particular getting a lot of attention, step forwards Claire Holt.

Holt is an Australian actress who started her career on tweenage show H2O: Just Add Water, a programme about mermaids. In recent years though she has been playing the role of put upon sister Rebekah Mikaelson in both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. First appearing in The Vampire Diaries, Rebekah and her siblings Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) were revealed as being the first of their kind. The trio proved popular with fans and were then transplanted into their own show via a sneaky back-door pilot in series four of The Vampire Diaries. Her character exited spin-off show The Originals at the end of series one though it is expected that she will turn up periodically during the second season, which is currently airing both in the UK (on SyFy) and in the US (on CW). It is unclear how many more appearances she would be able to make though were she to get the lead role in the show from a rival network.

But do we believe that she can play Supergirl? She definitely has the look that is synonymous with the role and her work as Rebekah has given her some opportunity to show off some strength. But what do you think?
