Sony Pictures Entertainment has just purchased an untitled, original idea developed internally at Mosaic Media Group as a starring vehicle for Will Ferrell (ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES, THE OTHER GUYS).
Centering upon the intensely competitive world within a Shakespearean theatre company, the pitched comedy will be the second comedic purchase by Sony with Ferrell at the helm.
The studio recently purchased the buddy comedy BORDER GUARDS about two Americans who, whilst trying to prevent Mexican immigrants from entering the US, find themselves across the border without identification and attempt to return. That screenplay is to be written by Jesse Armstrong (BABYLON) with Ferrell and John C. Reilly (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, CHICAGO) attached to the project.
Sony’s latest acquisition however, will be overseen by Michael De Luca (FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY) and Jonathan Kadin from Columbia Pictures with comedy writing duo David Guion and Michael Handelman (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: SECRET OF THE TOMB, DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS) set to write the screenplay.
