He’s faced festive assassins, a lethal Christmas tree and even carnivorous snowmen. And just when you thought Doctor Who was starting to run out of ideas for something to keep your mind off the mince pies, showrunner Steven Moffat brings Peter Capaldi’s curmudgeonly Time Lord face to face with the jolly sack lugger himself, Santa (played by Nick Frost). But what is the Special going to be called this year? Moffat has revealed the legend – Last Christmas. Whether this is directly tied to the much-wept-over Wham hit remains to be seen, but even the iciest of Capaldi’s critics are surely looking forward to his run in with the jelly-bellied childrens’ hero.
Following the Children In Need preview the BBC have also released a publicity image depicting The Doctor in casual mode, flanked by Frost and companion Jenna Coleman…
Being busy little helpers in the background are Dan Starkey (sans his usual Sontaran make up) and Nathan McMullen as Ian and Wolf. The press release also gives us the setting for this latest adventure:
The Doctor and Clara face their Last Christmas. Trapped on an Arctic base, under attack from terrifying creatures, who are you going to call? Santa Claus!
Also starring Michael Troughton and Natalie Gumede, Doctor Who: Last Christmas arrives Christmas Day on BBC One.
