HBO has secured the rights to Rick Atkinson’s bestselling book on the history of the Vietnam War, The Long Gray Line.
The Pulitzer Prize winner follows US cadets into Vietnam, and on their return to a much changed America.
Sons of Anarchy executive producers, Art and John Linson are developing the project, while new screenwriter, Phil Klay is penning the script. Klay has insider knowledge – he’s a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq. He also knows how to turn pen to paper as his book Redeployment, which looks at how soldiers coped with the aftermath of Iraq and Afghanistan, won the 2014 National Book Award.
Apart from The Long Gray Line, the Linsons are also currently working on Yellowstone with Sons of Anarchy writer Taylor Sheridan. It’s a historical drama following a ranching family in Montana.

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
