Benedict Cumberbatch is taking on the mantle of Marvel’s superhero sorcerer, Doctor Strange.
The Sherlock star will feature in the Scott Derrickson (THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, DELIVER US FROM EVIL) project. Jon Spaihts is writing the script.
Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created the character in the early ’60s. The Doctor is neurosurgeon who loses the ability to practise surgery due to an accident. Instead he turns to magic, becoming Sorcerer Supreme to protect us from mystical threats.
The project will be another movie for the ever expanding Marvel film universe – and Benedict Cumberbatch will no doubt be a welcome addition.

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
