Showtime’s upcoming financial sector weeing contest pilot Billions has signed an intriguing double header of acting talent to its books. Quizzical-looking Damian Lewis will star alongside diminutive character player Paul Giamatti in this story that dissects the way the cookie crumbles in the affluent section of The Big Apple, a place where vast sums are mere drops in the ocean. The former is Bobby “Axe” Axelrod, a hedge fund manager, and the latter becomes Chuck Rhodes, a US Attorney.
Both men have had their brushes with TV – Lewis has just come off the sizeable back of Homeland and Giamatti recently had a near miss via his own pilot Hoke. Billions is written/exec produced by Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin. In the helmer’s chair will be Neil Burger, who previously directed Giamatti in THE ILLUSIONIST. The project goes before the cameras early next year.
