Director: Corinna McFarlane
Starring: Damian Lewis, Ross Anderson, Andrea Riseborough
Running Time: 98 Minutes
Synopsis: An enigmatic outsider living on a remote Scottish island finds herself caught between her minister husband and the delinquent who is sent to live with them.
When a young man is dropped on the doorstep of a minister and his wife, he doesn’t realise immediately that the island is on the point of becoming deserted. As the island clears, it is just these three inhabitants who remain and, with nothing but each other and the beautiful landscape which surrounds them for company, this modern day fable starts to unravel in an enchanting manner as the film progresses.
THE SILENT STORM is the kind of beautiful, intoxicating film that gets under your skin and makes you glad to be on the planet, full of character, charm and intrigue.
Damian Lewis is terrifying as the nasty and violent minister (and, oddly enough, somehow also manages to occasionally be something of a pantomime villain); Andrea Riseborough is majestic as she reveals the many hidden depths to her character piece by piece. Newcomer Ross Anderson shines alongside these two seasoned professionals, showing that he has the potential to become a huge star (if there’s any justice!). Remember his name, it certainly won’t be the last time you hear it.
Writer/Director Corinna McFarlane is an inspiration to women passionate about film and aspiring writers everywhere. She has made an incredible film here and is sure to be a future talent to watch just as much as Anderson, her young star.
It was an incredible experience seeing it at the London Film Festival, amongst the cast and crew who are all so clearly proud of their baby as it goes out into the world! There is nothing to stay silent about here. The storm approaches.
