I know, I know. It’s like the stuff of dreams. David Bowie, a labyrinth, a masked ball, and of course, those trousers. But a wild-fire internet rumour that The Jim Henson Company is going to dig out the puppets once more for a LABYRINTH sequel looks like it’s just that – a rumour.
The culprit seems to be a Variety feature on Billy Crystal, which suggested a sequel might be in the offing. But alas, it seems it’s not to be. Instead it looks like the idea is just juggled around the boardroom every now and then, before being relegated to the Bog of Eternal Stench.
Or perhaps that’s a good thing? How could we ever better the 1986 cult fantasy? Surely the only way it could work would be if a now grown up Sarah (Jennifer Connolley) realised the error of her ways and exchanged her kid brother Toby (Toby Froud) for the hand of Jareth, the Goblin King (Bowie).
Come on, it’s what we were all thinking the first time round.
Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
