Steve Carell & Gore Verbinski To Work Together On Thriller

Steve CarellPlanned for a March 2015 shoot, Steve Carrell and Gore Verbinski are teaming up for a paranoia-fuelled thriller. Although primarily known for his comedic roles, Carrell is receiving a lot of buzz around his dramatic role in FOXCATCHER, and not just for his prosthetic nose. Carell first came to our attention as the smug news anchor in BRUCE ALMIGHTY, before really hitting it big with roles in ANCHORMAN and THE 40 YEAR-OLD VIRGIN, as well as starring in the US version of The Office.

Verbinski on the other hand, has had a versatile career that has taken in huge Hollywood blockbuster franchises in the form of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, slapstick farce in MOUSEHUNT, and horror in the remake of THE RING. Although not much else is known about this upcoming project, it will be scripted by Steve Conrad, the man who wrote this year’s THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY.

Hopefully some of the darkness that Carell seems to be channelling in FOXCATCHER will rub off on this latest effort, which is being produced by New Regency. But can Verbinski reclaim his box-office brilliance after the disappointment that was THE LONE RANGER.
